The following scholarships are available to teachers who apply prior to the fall conference.  Congratulations to the 2022 winners!

Special Educators Click HERE to apply for the Glen T. Yoshimoto Memorial Scholarship (3 scholarships – one each from Maine, New Hampshire, & Vermont)

The Glen T. Yoshimoto Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to a special education teacher dedicated to improving the lives of children with dyslexia. This scholarship will cover the registration fee for that individual to attend one of the conferences sponsored by IDA-NNEA this year. The Glen T. Yoshimoto Scholarship was established in 2017 by NHIDA (now known as IDA-NNEA) with a generous gift from Ron Yoshimoto in honor of his brother, Glen. Glen struggled all his life with undiagnosed dyslexia, leading to frustration and difficulty in school, limited life choices, and hardship. Glen passed away on January 12, 2018. Ron’s tireless dedication to educating people worldwide about effective, structured and multisensory literacy instruction for dyslexic learners has been inspired by Glen’s experiences. Our goal is that the scholarship recipient will share materials and information from the conference with colleagues in order to advance the understanding of dyslexia and the importance of appropriate instruction for students with dyslexia.

Classroom Teachers Click HERE to apply for the Marcia Mann Memorial Scholarship (3 scholarships – one each from Maine, New Hampshire, & Vermont)

This scholarship is awarded to a regular education teacher dedicated to improving the lives of children who struggle with reading acquisition. The Marcia Mann Scholarship was established in 2018 by NHIDA, now known as IDA-NNEA with a generous gift from Ron Yoshimoto in honor of his very special mentor and friend, Marcia Mann. Marcia has been in the field of education and reading for over 50 years. A Speech-Language Pathologist who has first-hand knowledge of and experience with dyslexia, she has been president of the New York Branch of IDA and a founding Fellow of the Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners and Educators.  Ron’s tireless dedication to educating people worldwide about effective, structured and multisensory literacy instruction, necessary for dyslexic learners and beneficial for all learners, has been inspired by Marcia’s example. In honor of Marcia, this scholarship will cover the registration fee for the recipient to attend one of the conferences sponsored by IDA-NNEA this year.  Our goal is that the scholarship recipient will share materials and information from the conference with colleagues in order to advance the understanding of dyslexia and the importance of appropriate instruction for students who struggle with reading acquisition.

Educators in a High Poverty School District and Professionals in the Field of Psychology Click HERE to apply for the Dr. Charlotte G. Andrist Memorial Scholarship (3 scholarships – one each from Maine, New Hampshire, & Vermont)

The Dr. Charlotte G. Andrist Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to a professional in the field of psychology or an educator from a high poverty school district dedicated to improving the lives of children with dyslexia. This inaugural scholarship will cover the registration fee for that individual to attend one of the conferences sponsored by IDA-NNEA this year. The Dr. Charlotte G. Andrist Memorial Scholarship was established by NHIDA, now known as IDA-NNEA, with a generous gift from Ron Yoshimoto in honor of his colleague and special friend who passed away on April 20, 2019. Dr. Andrist served on the Board of Directors of Ohio and Central Ohio Branches of the International Dyslexia Association (IDA) for over 20 years. Her most recent position was Branch President of the Central Ohio Branch of IDA. Charlotte, a school psychologist and psychology professor, was considered a major force in the field of dyslexia. Motivated by her own difficulties with reading, Dr. Andrist founded and directed two reading clinics that provided free reading tutoring while training teachers in structured literacy. An amazing teacher and advocate, Dr. Andrist impacted both students and teachers and was appreciated for her efforts to revise both national and statewide legislation including Ohio’s Dyslexia Law.  Our goal is that the scholarship recipient will share materials and information from the conference with colleagues in order to advance the understanding of dyslexia and the importance of appropriate instruction for students with dyslexia.

Note: We encourage applicants to register early for the conference to reserve a spot. The scholarship award will reimburse the cost of registration to the recipient upon confirmation of attendance
